Booking Lessons

To book a lesson contact the Ski School Reservations desk, the friendly staff will also be able to assist you with any queries you may have. We do our best to provide enough instructors, however during busy periods be sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Please complete your registration at the counter at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of your lesson.
You will be required to sign a consent form.
Please arrive on time to your lessons.
Lesson fees do not include lift ticket (except for Lesson Level 1).
All lessons include accident insurance with standard coverage.
100% cancellation fee will be charged for cancellation on the day.

Private Lesson

For personal feedback and specific attention, a private lesson is the best you can get. A One-on-One lesson will have you learning and improving sooner, no matter your ability level. Have an instructor all to yourself or in a group of up to 8 family and friends. Completely tailored to suit your needs, you can choose everything including the instructor, lesson time, meeting point, break time and location and what you want to work on. Or simply relax and have our experienced instructors guide you. Private lessons are also ideal for those who want to be guided to the best places and experience the finest of the mountain.

To get the most out of your day we highly recommend taking your private lesson at these times. We also want you to relax and enjoy your stay at the resort and a private lesson is all about you, so if another time suits you better please advise us so that we may accommodate you as best we can.

Level Charts

Ski Ability Level

Level 1	For beginners; you have never skied before. Unable to perform a snowplow on a gentle slope.
Level 2	Can slide and stop in a snowplow. You can not turn in both directions using a snowplow and still find green runs difficult.
Level 3	You can turn continuously in snowplow position on beginner terrain with confidence but want more control and freedom to explore the mountain.
Level 4	Able to ski comfortably and confidently on intermediate terrain starting turns in a wedge and finishing with skis close to parallel. Also starting to incorporate pole plants during turns.
Level 5	Can make parallel turns with a pole plant on all groomed intermediate and some advanced runs. Introduction to short turns and dynamic parallel turns.
Level 6	Can ski with dynamic parallel turns on advanced runs and in moguls. Able to make short turns on steep terrain. Aiming to explore more challenging off-piste terrain.
Advanced Level	Enjoy the challenge of difficult terrain and skiing in control while exploring the mountain. Confident in all conditions. Seeking to further improve your skills and refine your technique or an introduction to freestyle elements in a special workshop class.

Snowboard Ability Level

Level 1	For beginners; your first time trying a snowboard. You are unable to use a chairlift.
Level 2	You are able to slide and stop on both your toe and heel side. Sliding in a controlled direction and beginning to make turns.
Level 3	On gentle terrain you can smoothly link long sweeping turns. You are eager to venture onto steeper terrain.
Level 4	Able to confidently link turns on intermediate runs and some advanced terrain. Learning to make short turns and adapt to terrain styles. Riding off-piste and in powder and some small jumps.
Level 5	Comfortable on a wide variety of terrain and in varied conditions. Can alter turns styles as needed on advanced terrain. Beginning to explore off piste, powder, moguls or freestyle riding.
Advanced Level	Enjoy the challenge of riding difficult and varied terrain. Making hard carving turns. Experimenting with ground tricks and entering the terrain park. Seeking to refine your skills in a workshop class.

Night Lessons

These lessons are a great way to get the most out of your time at Rusutsu. If you arrive in the afternoon, have a night lesson so that you are ready to hit the trails in the morning. A night lesson is also an excellent way to review what you have learned that day. Skiing at night time under the lights of the resort is a great experience.

Group Lessons

We welcome and invite everyone to join our group lesson programs. They are a great way to have fun while improving and making some new friends along the way.

Please note that group lessons above level 2 are taught only in Japanese, unless a group of 4 or more of the same level make a request. For safety and instruction purposes we require that anyone who enrols in these lesson types has the necessary language proficiency.

Beginner Lessons Level 1 – 2

Available in English

This is a group lesson for beginners who have never skied before. You will learn the ski area rules and manners, basic movements of skiing and pick up some great pointers to help get you started. Get a group of up to 8 people together or join in with others for your first skiing experience!

Advanced Level Lessons

Even if you are an experienced skier or boarder having a lesson can help you take your skills to the next level, or quickly refresh your memory if you have not been on the snow for a while! The lesson can also be geared towards taking certification tests, refining your technique in the moguls, riding advanced level terrain, mastering freestyle tricks in the park or anything else you would like to work on. If you want to improve your skiing or boarding, a lesson with one of our professional instructors is for you!
